Boost OpenCart DB Speed
Budget: $30 – $250 USD
My OpenCart store is being held back by painfully slow product pages. I have already indexed the most obvious tables, yet the improvement was marginal; load times are still well above what shoppers will tolerate. There are no crashes or memory spikes, just sluggish queries that keep customers waiting.
Site is hosted on a new KVM VPS server. It ran bullet-fast for a few weeks then all of a sudden started crawling with very slow page load times which has frustrated visitors and also website development. The slowdown is most likely in the website/app/database/container layer, not the VPS itself as all resources are in good standing. The Docker container logs and the web/PHP/MariaDB services need a hard look at.
I'm currently running the site with OC 2.2 and PHP 5.6 as I'm using an older module (ZivaStudio) which lost support at this level and is heavily rooted in the shop so need to keep these intact.
I’m looking for a database specialist who knows MySQL/MariaDB inside-out and understands how OpenCart structures its catalog data. You’ll need to profile the slow query log, review current indexes, spot redundant joins, and decide where smart caching or table re-design will shave off those extra seconds. If tweaks to my.cnf or server-level settings are warranted, I’m open to them—as long as the end result is faster product pages without breaking existing functionality.
Deliverables :
• Diagnostic report outlining the root causes of the slowdown
• Applied fixes (schema changes, query refactoring, caching layers, config updates) documented for future reference
• Before-and-after benchmark proving at least a 50 % reduction in product page load time
I will grant full database and admin panel access in a staging environment, and once benchmarks look good we can push to production. Let me know your estimated timeframe as I need the site optimized as soon as possible as this slowdown is negatively affecting the business.
I think this should be a reasonably quick-fix for someone who knows their stuff and the problem should present itself pretty quickly. Will bonus out for fast work and solid results!
