API Development

I'm interested in taking a program I've already built and developing it into a product accessed through an API. The task is straightforward, but I'm not familiar enough with the technology needed for the backend to understand how complex the project is. Essentially, the call would include identifiers for two pieces of machinery. The server would look up information about both machines, do some math on their efficiency metrics, and then return the break-even time point for using one over the other.

As I said, I already have a fully-functional version of the database and math involved. I'd love to work with someone who can turn it into a scalable project.
