Illustrative Drawings (from PDF file) Processing, Image Editing and Annotations
We are seeking a skilled freelancer to assist us in processing a Car Owner’s Manual in PDF format containing images (570 pages; 500+ images). The objective is to meticulously extract relevant illustrative drawings of instructions from each page, process and format them as per our specific requirements, and compile the extracted data into a structured JSON Manifest File.
This project requires attention to detail and adherence to following guidelines.
Scope of Work:
Below are detailed instructions for each task, as well as expected deliverables.
1. Illustrative drawings extraction and preparation:
1.a Go through the complete car manual PDF document page by page, looking for and locating relevant illustrative drawings of instructions:
1.b For each identified illustrative drawing:
- Crop the illustrative image to its frame.
- Adjust the resolution to 300dpi.
- Remove any letters and pointer lines from the image.
- Clean up and correct the integrity of the instruction illustrative drawings; filling the gaps left by the prior removal of letters and pointers; making sure that the image appears clean and complete.
- Save each Illustrative image in PNG format, using the following naming convention: "page#-draw#.png", where # represents the corresponding page number and drawing reference number.
- Title Extraction: Locate the title of the picture. Typically, it is highlighted in bold and positioned at the top of the Illustrative drawing. If the Illustrative drawing doesn't have a title, capture the paragraph of instruction text it is related to.
2. Vector Path Creation:
For each element of the illustrative drawing that has a pointer line:
- Create a vector path around the element
- Ensure the vector path is closed.
- Make sure the path contours the element accurately.
- Specify the coordinates for the path relative to the extracted image dimensions (not the PDF page).
- Extract the title of each element from the text.
3. JSON Manifest Compilation:
- Capture and Save all extracted data into the structured JSON Manifest File.
- Ensure the JSON format follows the provided template.
Expected Deliverables:
- A folder containing the extracted and formatted drawing images, named following the "page#-draw#.png" convention.
- A JSON Manifest File containing structured data for each extracted drawing, including titles, vector paths, and other relevant information.
- Any additional documentation or reports regarding the project's progress, challenges faced, or unique considerations (if applicable).
Important Notes:
- Accuracy and attention to detail are paramount in this project.
- The work is to be done at scale; without compromising information integrity and quality. You will be using leading Data labeling and Image Processing software
- Maintain clear organization of files and data to ensure easy verification and validation.
- Communication is key; you will report any issues, questions, or clarifications needed in a timely manner.
