Authenticate Haunted Photos & Videos
Budget: $30 – $250 USD
My friend believes his apartment is haunted and I have a folder full of “evidence”: high-resolution stills that show misty silhouettes and several smartphone videos in which faint children’s laughter drifts through an otherwise empty room. I need a clear, professional opinion on whether any of this material has been tampered with or if we are simply dealing with camera artefacts and background noise.
The job covers both mediums. Each image should be inspected for signs of compositing, cloning, overlay artefacts, lighting inconsistencies, or hidden layer remnants. For the clips, I’m especially interested in an audio-forensics pass that can flag inserted tracks, splices, time-stretching, or spectral anomalies that don’t line up with the native room tone.
Please work non-destructively, keeping originals intact. Typical toolsets might include ExifTool or similar metadata readers for the photos, plus software such as Adobe Audition, iZotope RX, or FFmpeg for the waveform and spectral analysis—but feel free to use whatever professional suite you trust.
Deliverables
• A short written report for each file outlining methodology, observations, and a clear “Likely Original / Likely Manipulated / Inconclusive” verdict
• Annotated screenshots or audio spectrograms highlighting any suspicious regions
• A brief summary explaining next steps if further testing is advisable
