Linux Cron PERL Script: Query DB Field, Set Another DB Field

I’m just looking for a basic PERL script. BUT NEED IT FAST. Like today or tomorrow.
The script will be triggered with Linux Cron, connect to a remote or local database (the db connect code string can be commented out for one or the other), and based on the results of the query, set a different database field.
The script should purposely be built so that it can be recycled for future usage, meaning it should have clear comment fields noting which code to edit to change mySQL query logic.
