Wearable Tech: Smart Ring Flex PCB Design
Budget: $750 – $1,500 USD
Smart Ring – Schematic & PCB Layout for Flex PCB Prototype
Project Overview
We are developing a wearable smart ring for emergency use. The ring integrates a BLE module, tactile button, vibration motor, charging circuit, and curved LiPo battery into a flex PCB form factor. We already have a BOM, component selections, and placement constraints defined. Now we need a skilled hardware engineer to translate these requirements into schematics, PCB layout, and production-ready files for prototyping.
Deliverables
Complete schematic diagram in KiCad, Altium, or Eagle (preferred KiCad for portability).
PCB layout following flex PCB rules (4–6 mil traces for signals, 10–12 mil for power).
Component placement per our specifications:
~48–51 mm arc reserved for curved LiPo battery (20 mAh).
~6–9 mm arc reserved for electronics (BLE, charger, motor, button, MOSFET, passives).
Maximum 57mm for size 8 ring.
Antenna zone kept clear.
Gerber files + Pick-and-Place files for prototype manufacturing.
3D render or layer images of the PCB for visual review.
Integration of our chosen parts:
BLE module (HJ-531IMF / HJ-580XP).
MCP73831 charger IC.
MOSFET + diode + passives for vibration motor driver.
Tactile switch (1.6 × 1.6 mm SMD).
Curved LiPo battery pads (already in possession).
Design-for-manufacture notes to support prototype houses (Capel Technology Co. or U.S. fab).
Requirements
Experience with flex PCB design (wearables preferred).
Familiarity with BLE SoCs (Dialog DA14531, Nordic nRF52, etc.).
Strong knowledge of power management, LiPo charging, and vibration motor drivers.
Must deliver open-source editable files (no vendor lock-in).
Ability to recommend improvements while keeping within ~8 mm ring width.
Nice to Have
Prior work on wearables, medical devices, or IoT rings/bands.
Understanding of low-power design and battery optimization.
Knowledge of wireless charging (future phase).
What We Provide
Finalized BOM list (Digikey parts).
Placement notes + floorplan PDF.
Existing Gerber sample from another design (for reference only).
