Building a PCB to Replace the FFC Cable for Raspberry Pi 4 Camera Using Jumper Wires
Objective

Check attachments : ONLY DESIGN PART , ignore manufacturing and assembly
To design a PCB that replaces the fragile FFC (Flexible Flat Cable) used for the Raspberry Pi 4 camera module, allowing connection via jumper wires.(BOM req as well)


Components and Materials Required
Raspberry Pi Camera Module (compatible with Raspberry Pi 4 , maybe we will modify later to adapt to pi5 connector so just take into consideration but primary design is for pi4)


Raspberry Pi 4 Board


FFC Connector (15-pin, 1mm pitch, same as used in Raspberry Pi cameras)


PCB board (custom-designed)


Jumper wire (female-to-female and male-to-male)


Soldering tools (soldering iron, solder, flux, etc.)


PCB design software (KiCad, Eagle, or Altium Designer)


Designing the PCB
Determine Pin Mapping


Identify the pinout of the Raspberry Pi camera module’s FFC cable (CSI interface).


The FFC connector has 15 pins; ensure proper mapping to the corresponding Raspberry Pi CSI interface.


Create the Schematic


Use PCB design software (KiCad, Eagle, etc.) to create a schematic.


Place a 15-pin FFC connector footprint on the schematic.


Route the corresponding pins to a set of through-hole or header pin pads where jumper wires can be connected.


PCB Layout Design


Convert the schematic into a PCB layout.


Ensure proper trace width and spacing to avoid crosstalk and interference.


Optimize trace routing to minimize length and improve signal integrity.


Add mounting holes for mechanical stability.


Generate Gerber Files


Once the layout is complete, generate Gerber files.


These files will be used for PCB manufacturing.

Just replace FFC connect to traces where we can solder the jumper wires , you can even use flex PCBs concept .
Considerations and Best Practices
