Solar-Powered Smart Plant Monitoring IoT Device

Job ID: 39209602

Budget: $750 – $1,500 USD

IoT Engineer for Smart Plant Monitoring Device Prototype (ESP32 + Solar Powered)
Project Overview:

I’m looking for an experienced IoT hardware engineer to develop a solar-powered smart plant monitoring device. The device will monitor soil moisture, light levels, and temperature/humidity and send real-time data to a mobile app. It should also include a USB-C port for an optional plug-in nutrition sensor (NPK or general soil fertility analysis).

The goal is to create a working prototype that is energy-efficient, reliable, and scalable for manufacturing.

Project Requirements:

1. Hardware Design & Development
• Microcontroller: ESP32 (WiFi + Bluetooth)
• Power Management: Rechargeable 18650 Li-ion battery powered by a 5V, 1W-3W solar panel
• Sensors:
• Capacitive Soil Moisture Sensor
• BH1750 Light Sensor
• DHT22 or SHT31 Temperature & Humidity Sensor
• USB-C Port: For future plug-in nutrition sensor
• Low-Power Mode: ESP32 should optimize energy usage
• Waterproof Enclosure: IP65-rated case for indoor & outdoor use

2. Firmware Development (ESP32)
• Read data from moisture, light, and temperature sensors
• Send data via WiFi/Bluetooth to a mobile app (basic UI)
• Implement power optimization (deep sleep mode) to maximize battery life
• Support future USB-C plug-in NPK sensor integration

3. Deliverables

✅ Fully assembled and working prototype
✅ Firmware code (ESP32) with documentation
✅ Circuit schematics & wiring diagrams
✅ Bill of Materials (BOM) listing all components
✅ Testing report (sensor accuracy, solar efficiency, and battery life)

Ideal Candidate:

✅ Strong experience with ESP32 & IoT device development
✅ Knowledge of sensor integration (soil moisture, light, temperature, humidity)
✅ Experience with solar power management & low-power embedded systems
✅ Ability to provide documentation & manufacturing-ready design
✅ Good communication skills for progress updates

Project Timeline & Payment Structure (Milestones)

I prefer a milestone-based approach to ensure quality at each stage:

1️⃣ Component Selection & Circuit Diagram (~10-20%)
2️⃣ Firmware Development & Basic Testing (~30%)
3️⃣ Prototype Assembly & Functionality Check (~30%)
4️⃣ Final Testing & Documentation Delivery (~20%)
