ESP32-based PCB with Ethernet PoE + Firmware (Cloud & OTA Updates)
Budget: €250 – €750 EUR
We are looking for an experienced hardware and firmware developer to design a custom PCB based on the ESP32, featuring Ethernet with PoE (with priority over Wi-Fi), and develop the complete firmware. The project includes:
• Full PCB design (schematics + production files)
• Firmware development
• Delivery of all source files (hardware + software)
⸻
Required Features:
1. Networking & Communication
• Ethernet with PoE (Power over Ethernet), prioritized over Wi-Fi
• OTA updates supported both via local network (http://device.local/update) and cloud
• Secure communication with remote platform using:
• MQTT over TLS (preferred for status reporting)
• HTTPS for configurations and OTA
• WebSocket using Pusher-compatible protocol (must support Laravel Reverb or Pusher native) for real-time communication
• Device must authenticate using its MAC address and a unique token (configured via local web UI)
2. Power Supply
• Support multiple power input options:
• 110V or 220V AC
• 5V to 40V DC
• PoE (IEEE 802.3af/at)
3. Local Web Interface
• Accessible via local IP address
• Setup of network credentials, token, and device name
• Basic device status display
• Support for mDNS (e.g. http://device.local)
4. Firmware Updates
• OTA updates from the cloud or locally via USB-C
• Signed firmware with checksum validation
• Version check and management via API
5. Modularity & Expansion
The device must support simultaneous add-ons, such as:
• 2 / 4 / 6 / 8 relays
• 2 / 4 Wiegand devices (MIFARE readers)
• 1 NFC reader
• 1 QR code reader
• Future expansions (e.g., digital I/O, sensors, etc.)
6. Cloud API Integration
• Efficient data exchange: delta or event-based only
• Regular heartbeat (status ping) with:
• Uptime, firmware version, module status, errors
• Local logging of critical errors
⸻
Deliverables:
• Schematics and PCB production files (Gerber, BoM, etc.)
• Full firmware with source code
• Basic build and usage documentation
• Working prototype or simulation/tests of implemented features
⸻
Required Skills:
• ESP32 (preferably ESP32-WROOM series)
• PoE hardware design
• Firmware in C/C++ (ESP-IDF or Arduino)
• MQTT, HTTPS, OTA, WebSocket (Pusher protocol compatible)
• Experience with Wiegand, NFC, and QR code integration
