Custom Alfa Romeo LCD Smart Key
Budget: $250 – $750 USD
I’m building a next-generation smart key for my Alfa Romeo Giulia and need an electronics/product designer who can take the idea from concept to fully tested prototype. The unit must remotely lock / unlock the car and interface seamlessly with the factory immobiliser using a secure rolling-code protocol.
The key will house a small colour LCD whose sole job is to show battery status at a glance. Around that screen I’d like simple touchscreen zones for a modern feel, and the finished fob should also support true keyless entry and push-button start so the driver never has to take it out of a pocket.
Core technical requirements
• Secure rolling-code generation and synchronisation compatible with the OEM BCM
• Integrated antenna design and tuning for both LF (passive entry) and UHF (remote) bands
• PCB, firmware and enclosure designed to fit Alfa’s existing key cavity dimensions
• Low-power management so the LCD and capacitive touch remain efficient
• Splash resistance is preferred—full waterproofing isn’t mandatory but please keep seals and coatings in mind
Deliverables
1. Schematics, PCB layout (Altium, KiCad or similar) and BOM
2. Firmware source with documented rolling-code algorithm and CAN/LIN command set
3. 3D CAD for the enclosure ready for SLA printing and over-moulding
4. A working prototype demonstrated via video showing lock/unlock, keyless start, LCD battery read-out and touch interaction
5. Clear test report confirming successful pairing with an Alfa Romeo Giulia and RF compliance within EU/US limits
If you have experience with secure automotive RF, antenna tuning, and compact consumer-grade housings, I’d love to review your approach and timeline.
