Payroll Specialist Needed (Canada – Alberta)

Overview

We are seeking a locally based Payroll Specialist (Canada – Alberta) to manage and administer all standard payroll functions for our organization.

The role requires strong knowledge of Canadian payroll regulations, with specific expertise in Alberta employment standards, taxation, and compliance requirements.

The contractor will ensure accurate, timely, and compliant payroll processing across all employees and contractors.

Core Responsibilities

Process full-cycle payroll on a bi-weekly or monthly basis

Maintain accurate employee payroll records (earnings, deductions, benefits, allowances)

Calculate and process:

Salaries and hourly wages

Overtime, bonuses, commissions

Vacation pay and statutory holiday pay

Administer employee deductions, including:

Income tax (CRA)

CPP (Canada Pension Plan)

EI (Employment Insurance)

Benefits and other deductions

Compliance & Reporting

Ensure full compliance with:

Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) requirements

Alberta Employment Standards Code

Prepare and file all required payroll remittances:

Source deductions (CRA)

Employer contributions

Manage year-end reporting, including:

T4 preparation and submission

Records of Employment (ROEs)

Maintain audit-ready payroll documentation and records

Systems & Administration

Manage payroll systems and ensure data integrity

Coordinate with finance for:

Payroll reconciliation

General ledger integration

Maintain employee onboarding and offboarding payroll processes

Handle payroll-related inquiries from employees

Additional Responsibilities

Ensure confidentiality and secure handling of payroll data

Support internal reporting and payroll analytics as required

Identify opportunities for process improvement and automation

Assist with scaling payroll processes as the company grows

Qualifications

Based in Canada (Alberta preferred)

Strong knowledge of:

Canadian payroll legislation

Alberta employment standards

Experience with full-cycle payroll processing

Familiarity with CRA remittance and reporting requirements

PCP (Payroll Compliance Practitioner) designation is an asset

Engagement Structure

Availability for periodic reporting and compliance deadlines
