English OCR Text Correction
Budget: $15 – $25 AUD
I have raw OCR output from several English-language hardcover books that I’m turning into clean, searchable text. The scans are already complete; what I need now is meticulous, line-by-line correction of the machine-generated files.
Your task is straightforward but detail-heavy: open each OCR file (Word, TXT, or similar), compare it against the scanned page images I’ll supply, and fix every recognition error—misspelled words, broken hyphenations, missing italics, odd line breaks, subtle punctuation slips, you name it. I’m aiming for publication-ready text, so consistency in headings, chapter breaks, footnotes, and any special characters is essential.
A solid eye for English grammar and punctuation is crucial, and you’ll likely find Microsoft Word’s Track Changes or Google Docs’ suggestion mode helpful. If you’re comfortable with ABBYY FineReader or similar tools for quick cross-checking, all the better, but the final polish must be done manually.
Deliverables:
• A clean, fully corrected Word document for each book, mirroring the original structure.
• A brief change log highlighting any uncertain spellings, illegible spots, or editorial queries.
I will provide the OCR files plus high-resolution page images upfront, and I’m happy to review a sample chapter first so we can confirm we’re on the same page for style and accuracy.
