Home pfSense VPN Setup

I already have the pfSense appliance on-site and want it integrated cleanly into my home network. The primary goal is to establish a Remote Access VPN based on OpenVPN so I can reach all of my smart-home devices while I’m away.

Here’s what I need from you:

• Bring the pfSense box online: assign WAN/LAN interfaces, configure DHCP and create the baseline firewall rules for everyday browsing.
• Install and configure OpenVPN on pfSense, generate the necessary certificates, and supply ready-to-import profiles for iOS, Android, macOS and Windows.
• Confirm that traffic to my smart-home gear (lights, cameras, thermostat, etc.) flows through the tunnel properly—including any multicast or mDNS requirements—so everything works exactly as if I were on the local LAN.
• Provide a concise change log or cheat-sheet so I can manage or expand the setup myself later.

I can give you remote console or screen-share access and will be available for live testing during US-Eastern evenings. If you’re comfortable with pfSense 2.6+ and OpenVPN, let me know what details you’d like before we kick off and how long you expect the full configuration and testing to take.
