Three years ago I commissioned a desktop camera-monitoring tool in another language. It performed well at first, yet the front-panel window now flickers on and off and most antivirus suites flag the compiled .exe as suspicious. To bring the project back under control—and make future maintenance painless—I need the whole application ported to clean, well-documented Python.
I will supply the original source code and compiled binary the moment the contract begins. Your task is to replicate every existing function in Python 3.x, stabilise the interface, and eliminate the false-positive virus warnings. OpenCV handles the video pipeline smoothly, and PyQt (or a comparable GUI framework) should give us a reliable front end, but I’m open to your preferred libraries as long as they remain free and cross-platform.
Deliverables
• Fully commented Python source code organised in logical modules
• A lightweight README covering environment setup, run commands, and optional bundling with PyInstaller
• A packaged Windows executable that launches without antivirus alerts
Acceptance criteria: running “python main.py” must open a steady GUI, connect to the local camera, and operate continuously for at least two hours with no panel flicker or crashes, matching the legacy build’s behaviour feature-for-feature.
