Job Title: Writer/Researcher – Unscripted Documentary Film
Location: Bali, Indonesia
Employment Type: Contract
About Us:

Stump-Jump Productions is rapidly expanding its post-production team in Bali. Following the production and release of Chasing Zephyr: Iconic Islands, a major shoot has been completed across Borneo, covering three distinct regions: Sabah, Sarawak, and Kalimantan. Each region consists of six episodes, making this a large-scale, three-season documentary project. With the Sabah season nearly complete and set for release, we are now seeking a talented writer/researcher to help finalize the Sarawak and Kalimantan episodes. Additional shoots are planned for Indonesia in November, followed by a significant shoot across the Americas starting next April, all requiring swift post-production.
Job Description:
The Writer/Researcher will play a crucial role in shaping the narrative of our unscripted documentary series. In the pre-production phase, you'll be responsible for researching prospective peoples and places to be filmed, contributing to the development of a draft storyboard. During production, the content may evolve in unexpected ways, and after filming, you will review the rushes (raw footage), creatively identifying the story arcs and themes that will captivate viewers.
Key Responsibilities:
• Conduct research on prospective locations, cultures, and subjects to be filmed.
• Create draft storyboards based on research findings.
• Review rushes and develop the story arc and key themes from unscripted footage.
• Transcribe and select the most relevant dialogue from the footage.
• Write connecting narrative and explanatory content to form the final script.
• Collaborate with the editor, director, and narrator to ensure a seamless flow from visuals to narrative.
• Organize rushes and script in a format ready for post-production.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
• Must be based in Bali.
• Fluency in both Bahasa Indonesia and English, with a deep understanding of western (especially American) storytelling techniques, which should be reflected in the writing.
• Proven track record in writing for a range of mediums, including fiction and non-fiction books, screenplays, and unscripted documentary.
• Qualifications in media, film studies, or a related field are preferred but not essential.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Remuneration:
• This is a contract position.
• Rate: Rp 6,000,000 to Rp 12,000,000 per month depending on experience.

If you’re a skilled writer and researcher with a passion for documentary storytelling, we’d love to hear from you!
