Scalable Multi-Tenant Postgres Migration Workflow
Budget: $50 – $0 USD
Task Description: Migration Workflow Development for Multi-Tenant Postgres Application
Objective:
Develop a robust and scalable migration workflow to apply schema changes across multiple tenant databases in a multi-tenant Postgres application, using neo.tech serverless Postgres, AtlasGo, or Bytebase schema management system.
Background:
Our application operates in a multi-tenant environment using Postgres databases hosted on neo.tech. Each client has a separate database branch derived from a lead (parent) database schema. The database creation and credential management are handled internally.
Scope of Work:
1. Develop Migration Workflow:
- Create a structured workflow for applying schema changes across all tenant databases.
- Utilize either AtlasGo or Bytebase schema management tools to manage these migrations.
2. Requirements:
- Automated Schema Change Propagation:
- Ensure all schema changes are applied to all tenant databases.
- Maintain a list of target databases, which could be stored in a separate database or another effective method.
- Rollback Mechanism:
- Implement a mechanism to rollback schema changes in case of issues.
- Schema Validation:
- Perform schema validation before applying any migration to ensure consistency and compatibility.
- No Data Migration:
- Focus solely on schema changes without involving data migration.
3. Technical Implementation:
- Database Branch Creation:
- Leverage neo.tech API for creating database branches from the lead database.
- Migration Execution:
- Use AtlasGo or Bytebase for schema migration execution.
- Design the workflow to handle the potentially large number of databases (up to thousands).
-
- Monitoring and Logging:
- Implement comprehensive logging and monitoring for migration processes to track progress and identify issues.
4. Deliverables:
- Migration Workflow Documentation:
- Detailed documentation of the migration workflow, including setup, execution, and rollback procedures.
- Source Code:
- Provide the source code for the migration workflow, including any scripts or configurations required.
- Validation Reports:
- Reports on schema validation results before applying migrations.
- Testing and QA:
- Thoroughly test the migration workflow in a staging environment before deploying to production.
5. Timeline:
- Provide an estimated timeline for the development and implementation of the migration workflow.
Minimum Requirements:
- Proven experience with Postgres and schema management tools (AtlasGo or Bytebase).
- Familiarity with neo.tech serverless Postgres.
- Strong understanding of multi-tenant database architecture.
- Ability to design and implement scalable workflows.
- Proficiency in automated schema validation and rollback mechanisms.
Application Process:
- Submit a proposal detailing your approach to the task, including past relevant experience and estimated timeline.
- Include any questions or clarifications needed to refine the task description further.
This task is critical for ensuring the seamless and consistent update of schemas across our multi-tenant environment, enhancing the reliability and scalability of our application
