Job Description
We are building a direct-to-consumer telemedicine platform that integrates:
Shopify (already being built by a separate developer — storefront/theme work is out of scope)
Jotform for HIPAA-compliant medical intake
Stripe for payment processing using manual capture
A private telehealth provider platform with a white-label patient portal
We are looking for a senior backend integration developer to build a Node.js middleware service that orchestrates these systems via APIs and webhooks.
⚠️ This role is backend-only.
⚠️ No Shopify theme, Liquid, or UI work is required.
Scope of Work
You will build and deploy a Node.js / Express middleware that:
Core Responsibilities
Receive and verify webhooks from:
Jotform (intake submission)
Stripe (payment authorization, capture, cancellation)
Shopify APIs & webhooks (order creation, updates only — no UI work)
Telehealth provider platform (approval, rejection, shipping updates)
Transform and forward intake data from Jotform → telehealth platform without storing medical data
Implement Stripe manual capture workflow:
Authorize payment at checkout
Capture payment only after provider approval
Cancel authorization if prescription is rejected
Create and manage:
Patients
Orders
Questionnaires
Secure SSO keys for patient portal access
Implement SSO authentication for patient portal access
Maintain a PostgreSQL database that stores only operational identifiers (no PHI)
Handle retries, idempotency, race conditions, and error states
Follow strict security and logging best practices (no medical data logging)
Required Technical Skills (Must Have)
Backend & Language
Node.js (JavaScript or TypeScript)

Strong experience with Stripe webhooks
Experience with Stripe manual capture / delayed charge
Experience handling duplicate webhooks and idempotency
Experience with Shopify Admin API & webhooks (backend only)
Experience receiving and processing Jotform webhooks
Databases
PostgreSQL or MySQL
Designing schemas for transactional systems
Enforcing uniqueness and state transitions
Security & Architecture
Secure secret management (environment variables)
Webhook signature verification (Stripe, Shopify)
No-PHI logging practices
Stateless or PHI-minimal system design
