The Project:
We have successfully migrated our sites to Next.js 14 but have identified a critical performance bottleneck: the event loop metric, as measured through New Relic, has tripled in size.
This increase is primarily attributed to the changes in the Next.js 14 app router.
We are looking for a Next.js Performance Specialist to diagnose, address, and optimize this issue to meet our stringent performance benchmarks.
Responsibilities:
Conduct a thorough analysis to identify the root causes of the increased event loop size in our Node VMs post-migration.
Develop and implement strategies to optimize the event loop, specifically focusing on mitigations related to the Next.js 14 app router changes.
Work closely with our development team to implement performance improvements, ensuring compatibility and stability across our sites.
Utilize New Relic or similar tools to monitor performance impacts and improvements actively.
Provide a comprehensive performance optimization report, including before/after metrics, implemented strategies, and recommendations for future best practices.
Requirements:
Deep expertise in Next.js, particularly version 14, with a strong understanding of its routing mechanisms.
Proven experience in diagnosing and optimizing Node.js application performance, specifically around event loop management.
Proficiency with performance monitoring tools, ideally New Relic, with the ability to derive actionable insights from complex datasets.
