Modify nginx for CORS support after origin server update

I need someone that is versed in nginx and reverse proxy config to troubleshoot a broken config that accepts web requests from a web app and forwards traffic to an API server. After an update on the origin server I am getting CORS errors so some mods are needed to the nginx proxy config.
