Next.js AI App: Stripe, OpenAI, Supabase Integration

Join us in building a innovative web application designed to help students learn more effectively! Using AI, our app transforms uploaded study materials (PDFs, DOCX, etc.) into interactive notes, quizzes, and flashcards. We have a functional frontend foundation and are now seeking a skilled backend developer to build the core engine and bring the application to life.

Current State:
Frontend: Functional UI built with Next.js 14 (App Router), TypeScript, and Tailwind CSS. Components are largely complete but need backend data integration.
Infrastructure: Supabase Auth (signup/login) and Supabase Storage (file uploads) are set up and functional.
Database: A basic Prisma schema exists for our Supabase Postgres database.
What's Missing (Your Core Task):
The primary need is to build the core backend logic. This involves implementing the document processing pipeline (text extraction + AI generation), integrating Stripe for payments, and fully connecting the frontend UI to these backend services.
Key Responsibilities (Initial Project Scope):
Implement an asynchronous pipeline for processing uploaded documents (text extraction, triggering AI tasks). Initial focus will be on setting up the structure and basic processing.
Integrate the OpenAI API (GPT-4o mini/GPT-4o) to generate notes, quizzes, flashcards, etc., based on extracted text.
Implement Stripe integration for premium subscriptions (using Stripe Checkout and handling webhooks for payment events).
Build the backend logic for a context-aware Chatbot using document content and OpenAI models.
Develop and manage the database schema and logic using Prisma against Supabase Postgres (handling user status, generated assets, folder relationships, free tier tracking, Stripe info).
Ensure secure Supabase Auth session handling throughout the backend.
Build out full Folder Management functionality (associating materials with folders).
Create necessary Next.js API Routes or Server Actions to connect the frontend UI.
Implement logic for a free tier (one free note generation) and premium feature gating.
Ensure robust error handling and status tracking.
Required Tech Stack & Experience:
Must-Have:
Strong experience with Node.js and TypeScript.
Proven experience building backends with Next.js (App Router, API Routes/Server Actions).
Demonstrable experience integrating Stripe API (Subscriptions, Webhooks).
Experience working with the OpenAI API (or similar LLM APIs).
Solid understanding and experience with PostgreSQL and Prisma ORM.
Experience with Supabase (Auth, Database, Storage).
Experience building and consuming RESTful APIs.
Understanding of asynchronous programming patterns.
Nice-to-Have:
Experience setting up background job queues (e.g., Supabase Edge Functions, Vercel Functions, Inngest).
Familiarity with React and Tailwind CSS.
Good communication skills and ability to work from a detailed brief.
Deliverables (Initial Project):
A fully functional backend powering the application according to the features outlined. The immediate goal is a state where users can sign up, process one document free, upgrade via Stripe, and access features based on their subscription status. A detailed handover document outlining the current state and specific requirements will be provided.
