Establish Wireguard VPN connection Between VPS and Mikrotik
Budget: $10 – $30 USD
A site-to-site WireGuard tunnel between my MikroTik (RouterOS v7) router and an Ubuntu VPS is already handshaking. From the MikroTik side I can ping the VPS, yet the return traffic never finds its way back—so the problem clearly sits on the Ubuntu VPS’s routing table or policy rules.
What I need
• Identify exactly why the VPS is dropping or mis-routing packets coming from the MikroTik peer.
• Add or adjust the required route / policy rule so traffic flows symmetrically.
• Validate success with bidirectional ping, traceroute and a quick real-world service test.
Environment details
• MikroTik RouterOS v7, WireGuard interface already configured and working one-way.
• Ubuntu VPS (recent LTS) running the other WireGuard peer.
• No unusual firewall rules are in place; the focus is purely on routing.
How we’ll work
I can provide current WireGuard configs, `ip route` and `ip rule` outputs, plus temporary SSH access to the VPS and WinBox/WebFig access to the MikroTik. A short screenshare or command-line session is fine—this should be a fast fix for someone who has dealt with asymmetric WireGuard routing before.
When you reply, briefly outline your experience solving WireGuard or Linux policy-routing problems so I know you’ve done this in production. Once the routes are correct and the tunnel passes traffic both ways, the job is complete.
