ASUS RT-BE86U Security & Filtering
Budget: $15 – $25 CAD
I need my new ASUS RT-BE86U configured so everyone at home stays within the rules I set, and so those rules cannot be sidestepped. Your work will cover three main areas:
• Web access controls
– Block social media sites, adult content, and streaming services at the router level.
– Filter out malicious sites and gambling sites; ads and pop-ups can remain untouched for now.
• Time-based restrictions
– Enforce daily schedules for smartphones, laptops, and tablets (different windows per device group are fine as long as the limits stick).
• Security hardening
– Lock down the admin interface with strong credentials and best-practice firewall tweaks.
– Implement measures that stop users from tunnelling out via VPN or DNS work-arounds—DNS-over-TLS/HTTPS blocking, VPN client detection, or other proven techniques you have used before.
Everything should be done through the router’s existing firmware or, if you recommend it, an ASUSWRT-Merlin build compatible with this model—no extra hardware. I will provide remote access to the router’s UI at an agreed time and will test each rule live with you on a call.
