SolarWinds NPM SNMP Lab Setup

Job ID: 40180810

Budget: $10 – $30 USD

SolarWinds Network Performance Monitor is already up and running in my test lab; what I need now is for every one of the fewer-than-ten nodes to report flawlessly through SNMP. The mix is small—chiefly a PC that hosts a node-management application with built-in SNMP—but the goal is the same as in a full production network: clean real-time metrics, meaningful alerts, and complete historical data without gaps or noise.

Here’s the workflow I want completed:
• Map the relevant OIDs for each node and confirm they align with SolarWinds best practices.
• Apply my existing community string (SNMP v2c) to every device, verifying secure access and successful polling.
• Fine-tune pollers and collection intervals so the dashboard stays responsive yet efficient.
• Define sensible alert thresholds that avoid false positives while still catching genuine issues.
• Optimise views, widgets, and reports so that latency, CPU, memory, and interface health are immediately clear.

Acceptance criteria
– All devices appear as healthy, green nodes in NPM with no missing poller data for at least 24 hours.
– Custom alerts trigger only on the thresholds we agree, with no spurious notifications.
– Historical charts show continuous data points from the moment the project is declared complete.
– A concise hand-off document or brief screen-share walk-through details every change: poller settings, OID additions, thresholds, and any dashboard tweaks.

If you have hands-on experience wiring small labs or larger estates into SolarWinds and can deliver quickly and cleanly, this should be a straightforward engagement.
