Budget: $250 – $750 USD
I’m outfitting a new office with a Local Area Network whose main job is rapid, reliable data storage and access. All workstations—desktops and laptops—must connect seamlessly to a central NAS array, while network-ready printers and scanners stay reachable without slowing file transfers.
Here’s what I’m after:
• A clean LAN design that maps ports, switch hierarchy, and cabling so future expansion is painless.
• Hardware and software configuration—switches, access points if needed, and the NAS itself—tuned for high throughput and low contention.
• User-friendly shared folders with the right permission sets, keeping sensitive data protected yet easy to reach.
• Printer/scanner integration so every machine can discover and use them without manual driver hunts.
• Clear documentation: IP schema, admin credentials, and a short how-to for adding the next device.
If you prefer particular tools—Cisco IOS, UniFi, MikroTik, pfSense—let me know; I’m flexible as long as the end result is stable and easy to maintain. I’ll consider the job complete once I can plug in a new laptop, join the domain or workgroup, map the shared drives, and hit gigabit speeds to the NAS.
