MikroTik Redundant Fiber Link Setup

Budget: $10 – $30 USD

I need to turn two existing 10 Gbps SFP+ fibres between our sites into a single, resilient backbone. Site A runs a MikroTik CRS under SwOS, Site B uses an identical switch but on RouterOS. High availability is the goal, so if either fibre, port or transceiver fails traffic should flip to the surviving link automatically with minimal interruption.

Both ends already trunk several VLANs, so the redundancy method must pass tagged traffic unchanged and avoid loops. I am open to bonding/LACP, STP variants, or any MikroTik-friendly approach that achieves true automatic fail-over and quick convergence on both SwOS and RouterOS.

Deliverables
• Complete configuration steps for each switch (CLI or GUI as appropriate)
• Explanation of how VLANs remain intact across the bonded links
• Simple test plan: how to prove fail-over works and measure switchover time
• Tips for ongoing monitoring and logging so I can spot future link issues
