DevOps / Automation Engineer – Self-Hosted n8n + Python Layer + Twilio & VAPI Integration (2–4 Weeks)
Budget: $750 – $1,500 USD
Project Overview
We’re building an internal automation layer using n8n, connected to our existing FastAPI + PostgreSQL + Twilio + VAPI backend.
Our goal:
Deploy a self-hosted n8n instance with a Python execution environment and secure JWT integration, enabling AI, data, and communication workflows that tie directly into our backend APIs.
This powers DealScale.io, our AI automation platform for real estate and B2B teams.
You’ll work directly with our lead backend engineer — your focus is infrastructure, n8n setup, and automation enablement.
What’s Already Done
PostgreSQL deployed and connected
Backend API + JWT endpoints ready
Twilio + VAPI credentials available
Your job: deploy n8n, integrate, and enable scalable automation.
Sprint Plan (2–4 Weeks Total)
Sprint Goal Deliverables
Week 1 – Base Deployment Launch core automation stack. • Deploy n8n via Docker Compose (persistent storage).
• Configure .env and health checks.
• Confirm workflows persist after restarts.
Week 1–2 – Security Layer Secure and expose n8n. • Configure Traefik or Nginx reverse proxy.
• Add HTTPS (Let’s Encrypt) and basic auth.
• Test secure UI and external access.
Week 2 – Python Runtime Integration Extend automation capabilities. • Extend Docker image to include Python 3.11+.
• Add curated requirements.txt (pandas, requests, openai, etc.).
• Validate “Execute Command” node runs Python scripts.
Week 3 – Backend & Custom Hooks Connect backend & automation. • Create custom n8n nodes or scripts for JWT-secured API calls.
• Verify bidirectional workflow execution between n8n and backend.
• Document integration process.
Week 3–4 – Twilio & VAPI Layer Integrate communication workflows. • Configure Twilio API nodes (send/receive).
• Support number pooling, thread tracking, and credit deduction (backend handles logic).
• Integrate VAPI voice layer for real-time analytics logging.
• Validate secure, JWT-authenticated voice + SMS workflows.
Stack
Automation: n8n (self-hosted, Docker)
Runtime: Python 3.11+
Backend: FastAPI (JWT-secured APIs, already deployed)
Messaging: Twilio (SMS/MMS)
Voice: VAPI (real-time voice AI analytics)
Security: HTTPS, JWT, RBAC
Infra: Ubuntu Server
-Collaboration
You’ll collaborate directly with:
Lead Backend Engineer – manages API endpoints & DB
CTO/Founder – oversees automation architecture
- Budget & Scope
Timeline: 2–4 weeks max (milestone-based)
Deliverable: Production-ready n8n automation layer with Python, Twilio, and VAPI integrations.
- To Apply
Please include:
Example of a self-hosted n8n / Airflow / Node-RED setup you deployed.
Short note on your Python-in-Docker and JWT-secured API experience.
Experience with Twilio / VAPI or any voice analytics workflows.
Availability to start this week and complete within 2–4 weeks.
