Ipad to software connection through Access or Mysql

I have a program that I installed onto my computer that uses either Microsoft Access or Mysql database. Unfortunately the Company that created the program is no longer around for troubleshooting. The local software connects to an ipad app then it syncs data to it.
I cannot get them to connect and I am thinking it may be an issue with the port settings but I am not sure so I need someone who knows about this and can help me get it fixed.
