File-based and local database

We currently have a chat app that work with firebase greatly but we have come to a point where user have been complaining that its slow as the app have first to connect to firebase before it's can open the app so i will like to have a local database first so a certain informations are stored localy. like let say the last message and pictures or videos send and the sync work in the back ground.
