We are in Sales and Marketing- resort memberships (NOT Timeshare...) We have a MySQL/PHP database developed several years ago (will not function in a PHP environment over 5.0) and there is one major monthly task I must complete with it. Every month we receive a prospects list from a business partner in an Excel workbook- between 8,000 and 15,000 records. Data entry originally performed by simians. The data I receive is fairly messed up; data in incorrect fields, data badly formatted, bad phone numbers, convoluted first/last names.
It takes me about three hours to prepare the spreadsheet to be entered into a special Access DB I created for the purpose of automating the remainder of the task which is supposed to allow me to import a tab-delimited text file into our database in the cloud.
This second part takes a lot of time also as it all requires human eyes to distinguish between a true middle name, or a spouse first name entered into the middle name field. (

I have begun a sort of user's manual for this operation. It is incomplete and still has typos, but I'm attaching it to give you some idea of what I have to go through to end up with an up-loadable file.
