Assistance with Itunes Cataloging

I have a collection of music that is stored on a FTP server, I have mapped the drive to my computer and it has a LOCAL drive letter to my IBM compatible computer. I started to 'ADD FOLDER' to itunes yesterday @ 8am and now it is almost 24 hours later and it is still doing the process. The scanning of the songs when on a LOCAL machine is fast but the rate that it is scanning or cataloging the songs into Itunes is about the rate of 1 per min. So you see my delema 1 per min could take weeks to scan my collection into I tunes. I was wondering if there was a FASTER way to scan it in. I feel like it is anilizing every song before adding it to the library is there a way to... just have it LIST the songs and not anilize them. Please let me know. Thank you.
