VP Mural (VPM) I need a Graphic Designer/Artist who can produced online 2x2meter tromp d'oiel to be printed out/affixed to a wall in a house
Budget: €3,000 – €7,000 EUR
Request
Marcia (my partner) and I are looking to fill a large wall space in the main entry (2.0m x 2.0m) in our Villa in Italy. It is located above Camogli Liguria; with a Westerly view over the Gulf of Paradise, Genoa and the Western Mediterranean. It is nestled half way up the slopes of the Portofino national park.
A breifing pack and video is available on google drive (upon request). Otherwsie the six screen shots attached give you an idea (pages: 0-1-7-9-16)
We would like to have something that distinguishes ’Villa Paramora’: reflecting the main hall position, juxtaposition with the western Riviera view/light, the colours, he dominant pinion trees that surround and our interests/personalities. We have yet to find as signature piece of art (correct, large framed painting: size-subject-colour). Thus my idea towards a mural/tromp d’oeil.
Concept: Gallery of Curiosities (reflecting our personalities and history)
The mural would be a room (or gallery) of exploration-curiosities. An interior concept the Renaissance Italians toyed wth and the Victorians of England and New England developed. It is a visual pun on the rather boxy and simplistic 1950 Italian style of the house. Also, it would be a key to Marcia and Justin (individually and a couple)
As one will appreciate the mural will be a talking point: making people smile as well as question: what is that… why is it there?
We don’t want kitsch. We do want something that reflect us and entices, literally draws the viewer in: visually, emotionally and intellectually with the personal clues. The mural is almost a cabinet (no, chambers) of curiosities.
Of course, ‘less is more’ but it requires layers. We don’t something superficial nor banal. It should be stimulating as well as playful. A true visual serendipity.
I have a passion for History and Literature with strong interests in design, colour and forms which are given expression in symbolism, icons/tokens, vexillology, art, comics, family trees. etc. I can trace parts of my family back to 1540 and it and I have travelled widely. Marcia is a bit more aesthetic but has a strong creative streak and is a very accomplished artist -painter.
I have ideas with regard to the individual images/tokens/items as well as digital versions of some of them that can be manipulated. Once the: room dimenions-styel/type-furniture and layiut is determined the images/items can be chsoen and pl;aced accordimngly for best effect
Style
The style of painting is probably closer to photo-realistic than impressionist/pop-art in nature.
A digitally based approach has been suggested and seems feasible. A digital form has great appeal for its flexibility and practicality. Everything can be mastered on-screen and then the appropriate size printed out/made: either in UK and sent to Italy; or locally in Italy.
Perhaps we “paint” the tromp d’oeil, over the print out. I can imagine your reaction to the amateur sketches that follow but iterations are part of the creative process.
The touch of a master is need to bring it together and to life.
As to timing, to have this completed by June 2022.
We would welcome any/all comments, challenges or alternative suggestions.
Best regards
Justin
