VESC Dual Motor Go-Kart Setup
Budget: $15 – $25 USD
I have a go-kart project that uses two separate BLDC motors and I need them both running flawlessly through a VESC-based controller and a handheld remote. Your prior, hands-on experience with VESC firmware, toolchain and hardware integration is critical here—I’m not looking for first-timers.
Scope
• Advise on the most suitable VESC hardware (single dual-channel unit vs. two singles) and remote model for independent motor control.
• Generate and load the correct firmware, map receiver channels, and tune current, RPM and throttle curves so that each motor responds smoothly and in sync.
• Provide a clear wiring diagram, recommended fuse ratings, and safety interlocks.
• Walk me through the VESC Tool settings, so I can tweak limits later.
• Optional but welcome: pointers on adding regenerative braking and basic telemetry for future upgrades.
Acceptance criteria
Both motors must start, accelerate, brake and reverse cleanly from the remote, with no desync under load. Temperature, current and voltage protections should trip reliably, and all settings must be saved in a shared configuration file I can reload at any time.
Deliverables
1. Final VESC configuration files (.xml or .json).
2. Annotated wiring schematic.
3. Step-by-step setup notes or short screen-recorded walkthrough.
4. One remote support session after initial tests.
If you’ve already tuned dual-motor skateboards, e-bikes or similar electric vehicles, this should feel familiar—just scaled for a go-kart’s torque demands. Let me know what hardware you’ve handled and the turnaround time you can commit to, and we’ll get moving.
