Rectangular Tattoo Machine PCB Design
Budget: $250 – $750 USD
I’m building a compact, battery-powered tattoo machine and need a custom rectangular PCB that can both manage the lithium-ion power source and drive the rotary motor smoothly.
Core requirements
• Power management: on-board charging, cell protection, and a stable step-up/step-down stage to keep the motor supplied as battery voltage drops.
• Motor control: for controlling brushed dc motor. To adjust voltage supplied to the motor in 0.1v increments
Form factor
The board must remain rectangular and no larger than roughly 35 mm on its shortest edge so it can slide into the existing machine housing without modifications.
Deliverables
• Complete schematic in KiCad, Altium, or Eagle
• Optimised PCB layout (Gerber, drill, pick-and-place files)
• Bill of materials with readily available components
• Brief design notes covering key calculations and any firmware pin-outs if a microcontroller is used
