A new online furniture retailer is seeking proposals from expert freelancers or agencies for the development of a state-of-the-art, custom Shopify application. This document outlines the project scope, objectives, and technical requirements for a comprehensive, fully-featured AI visualization tool.

1. Introduction & Business Context

We are a forward-thinking online furniture retailer dedicated to creating a best-in-class customer shopping experience. Our growing catalogue currently stands at approximately 1,000 SKUs and is projected to double annually.

The objective of this project is to develop an industry-leading Shopify widget that allows customers to upload a photo of their room and receive a photorealistic visualization of how our furniture products would look in their space. This is a strategic initiative to significantly enhance the customer journey, boost conversion rates, and establish our brand as a technology leader in the market.

2. Project Objectives

The success of this project will be measured by its ability to:

Drive Conversion: Increase add-to-cart and conversion rates by allowing customers to visualize products in their own home with high fidelity.

Enhance Customer Experience: Deliver a seamless, intuitive, and highly engaging "try-before-you-buy" tool that reduces purchase uncertainty.

Generate Rich Insights: Provide personalized, AI-driven style recommendations and gather detailed analytics on user behavior and product interest.

Establish Market Leadership: Differentiate our brand by launching a cutting-edge tool that sets a new standard for online furniture retail.

3. Existing Technical Ecosystem

The successful solution must integrate with our current infrastructure:

Shopify Store: A private store utilizing the Dawn theme. The application will be developed as a private app.

Product Data (Airtable): Our master product catalogue is managed in an Airtable Base. The core "Products" table includes SKU, Variant_ID, Title, Hero_Image_URL, Price, Stock_Qty, Tags, and Dimensions_cm.

Data Sync: An existing Matrixify workflow syncs data from Airtable to Shopify Products/Variants every 5 minutes.

AI & Cloud Services:

OpenAI: Active paid-tier account with API access to models including GPT-4o Vision, image-embed-001, text-embedding-3-small, and image generation/editing models.

Cloudflare: A Cloudflare Worker subdomain and an R2 bucket are provisioned and available for use.

Design Assets: We have high-quality, transparent-background PNG hero images for all ≈1,000 SKUs.

4. Scope of Work: Required Deliverables

This project scope covers the end-to-end design, development, and deployment of the complete visualization tool.

A. Frontend (User-Facing Shopify Extension)

Shopify Theme App Extension: A robust JavaScript/React block designed for seamless embedding on Product Detail Pages (PDPs) and/or a dedicated "Style My Room" page.

Advanced User Interface (UI):

An intuitive file upload component for user room photos (JPEG/PNG, max 5MB).

A simple text input for users to optionally describe their desired style.

Clear user feedback mechanisms (e.g., progress indicators for each processing step, informative error messages).

Photorealistic Visualization Output:

Display the recommended products for user selection.

Generate a highly realistic composite image featuring the selected product in the user's room. This must include accurate perspective matching, lighting correction, and shadow casting to create a believable scene.

"Add to Cart" Functionality: A functional "Add to Cart" button for each recommended product that correctly uses the Shopify Storefront JS SDK and reflects live price and stock availability.

B. Backend (AI & Data Processing)

Advanced AI Pipeline:

Scene Preparation & In-painting: Implement a sophisticated AI model (e.g., DALL·E "images/edits", SDXL in-paint) to intelligently identify and remove existing furniture from the user's room photo, creating a clean canvas for new items.

Catalogue Embedding & Search: Generate and maintain vector embeddings for the product catalogue. Implement a robust vector search solution (e.g., FAISS, Qdrant) to find the best-matching products based on visual and textual similarity.

AI Stylist Notes: After recommending products, leverage a Large Language Model (LLM) to generate personalized, concise stylist notes explaining why a particular item is a good match for the user's space and style query.

Performance: The end-to-end processing pipeline should be optimized for a reasonable user wait time, with clear performance targets for each stage (e.g., furniture removal, recommendation, rendering) to be proposed by the vendor.

C. Administrative, Analytics & Compliance

Shopify Admin Interface: A comprehensive, embedded admin page allowing our team to:

Securely manage all necessary API keys (Airtable, OpenAI).

Monitor system status and basic performance metrics.

Manually trigger embedding updates.

Optimized Embedding Process: The system must include an incremental update mechanism to process only new or modified product embeddings, avoiding the need to re-process the entire catalogue daily.

Advanced Analytics & Reporting: Implement detailed tracking and reporting on:

Feature usage, user interaction, and conversion events.

Match rates and popularity of recommended products.

Comprehensive OpenAI API cost reporting, broken down by model/task.

Data Deletion Compliance: Implement the mandatory Shopify uninstall webhook to ensure all user-uploaded images and associated data are purged from our systems within 48 hours of uninstallation.

5. Suggested Technical Architecture

We are open to expert recommendations but suggest the following stack as a baseline:

Frontend: JavaScript/React (Shopify Theme App Extension).

Backend: Cloudflare Workers and a scalable server-side language (e.g., Python with FastAPI/Django, Node.js with Express) for complex AI and data tasks. A robust job queue/orchestration framework (e.g., Celery, Temporal) may be required.

Data Storage: Cloudflare R2 for temporary image storage, and a scalable vector database (e.g., Qdrant, Pinecone, Weaviate) for embeddings.

6. Budget & Timeline

Due to the comprehensive nature of this project, we are seeking proposals that include a detailed price breakdown and an estimated timeline for completion. Please structure your quote to align with the major deliverables outlined in Section 4.

7. Proposal Requirements & Submission

Interested parties should submit a proposal that includes the following:

A Detailed Quote & Cost Breakdown: Your total project cost in AUD, with itemized pricing for major development phases (e.g., Frontend, Backend AI Pipeline, Admin/Analytics).

Proposed Timeline & Project Plan: A realistic timeline with key milestones for the design, development, testing, and deployment of the complete solution.

Portfolio & Experience: Examples of past projects demonstrating deep expertise in custom Shopify development, complex AI/ML model integration (especially generative image models), and building scalable backend systems.

Proposed Approach: A summary of how you plan to tackle this project. Please include your recommended technical stack, any clarifying questions, and identify potential risks.
