Profitability & Project Evaluation Android App
Budget: €8 – €50 EUR
INTRO:
We are a junior analyst team working on a prototype app to be proposed to the company’s management, as such, the budget is very limited. The project consists of developing a mobile application (.apk format) to evaluate and estimate revenues and profitability of a firm’s projects, helping management’s decision-making. The app should be divided into the following sequential four parts:
SEZ 1:
In the first part, we need a series of filters to estimate the length of the project.
The first page of the app should show 6 sliders ranging from 0 to 10, selectable by the user, where 0 indicates “we are not at all prepared” and 10 “we are well prepared”, with the following names assigned:
As-is assessment
IT development
Target Design
Resources
Risks and uncertainties
External boundaries
The average value of these 6 sliders should be computed as the ‘X’ variable in the following formula:
Y= -10X+120
The final output should show the ‘Y’ variable in the following text:
“Initial workdays required: [Y]”.
From the graphic point of view, we need scroll bars for each indicator, a value counter to show the result of estimated workdays and a button to accept and go to the next section.
SEZ 2:
In the second stage, we need tags to filter workers' profiles based on the characteristics required by the company. The idea is: the user should be able to select a tag and see only the role to which the tag has been assigned.
Tags should be assigned as follows:
ROLE: Data analysis consultant
TAGS: ‘Statistical Analysis’, ‘Data Visualization’, ‘Machine Learning’, ‘Coding proficiency’.
ROLE: IT consultant
TAGS: ‘IT infrastructure’, ‘System Design’, ‘Coding proficiency’, ‘’.
ROLE: Strategy manager
TAGS: ‘Strategy’, ‘Governance’, ‘Risk assessment’, ‘Sustainability’.
ROLE: Change management specialist
TAGS: ‘Sustainability’, ‘Change management’, ‘Process optimization’, ‘’.
ROLE: Cybersecurity specialist
TAGS: ‘Coding Proficiency’, ‘Cybersecurity’, ‘IT infrastructure’, ‘Risk assessment’.

The profile presented, together with the profession, should also show a picture and name of the specialist, their operating country, and two variables about costs called “Fixed costs: [value]” and “Annual revenue: [value]”. In this way, it’s possible to analyze each consultant to make the best team possible.
Every time the user selects a specialist, the project’s workdays should be updated according to the following formula:
Tn=T0Pn where:
T0 = initial workdays required
Pn = Number of specialists hired
Tn = new number of workdays required.
When the client achieves the desired goal in terms of team members and workdays, the updated workdays counter should be shown alongside a button to go to the next section.
SEZ 3:
In the third stage, we would like to have an estimate of the fixed and variable costs related to the project in question. Specifically, we would like the fixed costs to be calculated based on the materials required by the profile selected in the previous section.
Fixed costs = sum of [fixed cost] variable for each worker hired in the previous section.
As for the variable costs, we would like the estimate to be based on the following formula, using the annual wages and workdays data directly from the previous sections.
Variable costs = for each worker hired, sum of ([annual wage] ÷ 365) * workdays
After selecting the profile that aligns most closely with the project in the second stage, we want the app to automatically display the fixed and variable costs associated with the selected profile.
We do not have specific graphic requirements for this section; the key point is that the costs are clearly displayed and there is a button to go to the next section.
SEZ. 4:
The section 4 is the final one, in which the client should input manually the sales price based on its assumptions. This defines the revenues that should give the profitability in percentage, automatically taking fixed and variable costs from the previous section, through the following formula:
Profitability%=[revenues-(fixed costs+variable costs)]revenues
After this result, the section should include a summary of the previous sections’ insights such as the final number of workdays needed; the number and role of consultants; the total cost for each consultant selected (based on the previous step); and Consultants' contacts once the project is confirmed. As a final output, a pdf file summary should be printed, containing the values for the sliders at section 1, the specialists hired and their contact information, the required workdays, a total sum of costs, the expressed revenues and the profitability of the project.
