Modify app recyclerview to accept dpad click

I have a app which has a recyclerview which can hold text, or image, video, vcard, audio, currently the app works well that when I click on the image the image opens same for video, however when I use the dpad to click it wont open the image (probably because the focus is not on the image but on the itemview).

I need you to make this work, so for image, video, vcard, audio they all will play when clicked on by dpad.
