Jamaican Agriculture: Web & Mobile Platform Development
Budget: $30 – $250 USD
Title: Website & Mobile App Development for Jamaican Farmers’ Information Platform & Crop Marketplace
Description:
We are looking for an experienced developer/team to create a website and mobile app for farmers in Jamaica. This platform will allow farmers to input information about the crops they are planting, the stage the crops are at and where they are located. The App should be able to project harvest dates, and estimate production based on acreage. The app will feature various agricultural insights, alerts, and a marketplace for buyers to connect with farmers.
Key Features:
1. Farmer Crop Input:
o Allow farmers to input details about the crops they're planting (crop type, acreage, location).
2. Agricultural Alerts & Challenges:
o Provide alerts on common pests, diseases, and challenges based on the selected crop.
o Offer advice on how to combat these issues.
3. Spatial Crop Distribution:
o Visual representation of crops across Jamaica in a map in GIS clickable format parish level.
4. Marketplace & Buyer Access:
o Paid access for buyers to contact farmers, similar to an "Amazon-style" marketplace for agricultural products.
o Payment system that holds funds until the buyer confirms receipt and quality of goods. Payment can be made online or in-person once goods are received and accepted.
5. Supply Monitoring:
o Use crop and location data to project harvest dates and estimate production amounts per parish and nationally.
o System to project when there may be an excess/deficit supply of certain crops in the market based on farmers' data.
o Based on projections give an idea of good crops to cultivate at a given time.
6. Farmer Updates & Quality Control:
o Mid-cycle updates to verify crop production and progress.
o Quality control feature for video calls between farmers and admin of the page.
7. Weather & Alerts:
o Notifications for farmers about upcoming weather systems that may affect crops.
8. Farmer Forum & Image Sharing:
o A forum where farmers can upload images of crop challenges they are facing.
o Other farmers can provide input, diagnoses, and solutions to these issues.
o The forum will create a growing catalog of possible issues and solutions over time, improving overall community knowledge and support.
9. Agreements & Terms:
o An agreement clause during sign-up explaining that data will be used for research and monitoring.
o Option for farmers to agree to be contacted by buyers.
o Disclaimer that the information is based on what farmers report and is not always quality tested.
Other Requirements:
• The platform should include a user-friendly interface, secure payment system, and the ability to handle large datasets.
• Must be compatible with both web and mobile (Android/iOS) platforms.
• Provide a clean modern, responsive design with seamless user experience.
• Opportunity for ads as an income generation source.
Deliverables:
• Fully functional website and app (web and mobile).
• Source code and any relevant documentation.
Please include examples of similar projects you’ve worked on in your proposal.
