Ideal Candidate
We are looking for an experienced mobile app developer to build a food ordering platform. The app must run smoothly on iOS, Android, and Huawei (HarmonyOS/EMUI) with real‑time functionality at its core.
1. Core Platform Expertise
iOS: Swift / SwiftUI (or UIKit) – including App Store deployment.
Android: Kotlin / Java (or Jetpack Compose) – including Google Play deployment.
Huawei OS: Experience with HarmonyOS development (or ability to port Android apps to Huawei AppGallery using Huawei Mobile Services (HMS) as a replacement for GMS). Must know how to handle push notifications, location, and in‑app purchases via HMS.
2. Real‑Time Features (Essential for Food Delivery)
Live order tracking – customer sees driver’s location and order status updates in real time.
Real‑time driver assignment and ETA calculations.
Instant push notifications for:
Order confirmation / rejection by restaurant
Food ready & out for delivery
Driver arrival / order delivered
Promotions or status changes
Live chat between customer, restaurant, and driver (optional but common).
Proven experience with:
WebSockets (Socket.io, etc.)
Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) + HMS Push Kit
Real‑time databases (Firebase, Supabase, or custom backend with SSE/WebSockets)
3. Food‑Ordering Specific Modules
The developer must have built or contributed to apps that include:
Restaurant browsing with search, filters (cuisine, rating, delivery time), and geolocation‑based ranking.
Dynamic menu with modifiers (extra toppings, size choices), real‑time price updates, and stock availability.
Shopping cart management with real‑time total calculation, promo code validation, and order minimum checks.
User accounts (email/phone sign‑up, social login) and address book with map integration.
Payment gateway integration (credit card, digital wallets, COD) – preferably with multiple providers (Stripe, Tabby, etc.) and Huawei IAP where needed.
Order history & reorder functionality.
4. Map & Location Services
Ability to integrate real‑time maps (Google Maps on Android/iOS, Huawei Map Kit on HarmonyOS) for:
Address autocomplete and pin selection
Live driver tracking (polyline updates, marker animation)
Geofencing for delivery zones
Background location updates for driver app (if the developer also builds the driver side – clarify scope).
5. Performance & Offline Capabilities
Optimised for slow or unstable networks (e.g., retry mechanisms for placing orders).
Local caching of restaurant menus and user data to reduce loading times.
Graceful handling of real‑time connection drops (e.g., order still goes through via background sync).
6. Backend & API Integration
Connect to RESTful/GraphQL APIs for menus, user profiles, orders.
Implement real‑time endpoints (WebSocket or long polling) for order status updates.
Understand authentication (JWT, OAuth2) and secure API key management.
7. Security & Compliance
Protect payment data (PCI DSS awareness) – never log or store full card details.
Encrypt sensitive user data (addresses, phone numbers) both in transit (TLS) and at rest.
Implement biometric login (optional but good).
8. Testing & Reliability
Unit/integration tests for critical flows: add to cart, place order, receive real‑time status updates.
