British Columbia Geology / Geolocation App

Job ID: 36716514

Budget: $750 – $1,500 CAD

I am looking for a reliable developer to help build a simple phone application which takes the users position and shows on a map what geology they are stood on. The geological data is available in the form of shapefiles or KML. The user should then be able to click that layer and have basic data show up, such as type of rock, age etc.

Eventually we would like to grow this application to:

- incorporate specimen data from our interactive map at BelowBC.com
- perhaps have a portal where users can upload images or descriptions of rocks and outcrops that they find
- a tourism element of things to see and do (to help with sponsorship)
- possible augmented reality version which takes the users camera and overlays the geology onto the landscape

There are apps like this out there, specifically the British Geological Survey has their "iGeology" version which worked great in the UK. There are others that are generalized but we want something that is specific to British Columbia.

We are a small non-profit organization with limited funds but want to use this as a relaunch spring board for us and a possible income stream so we can continue our public outreach.

The app should be easy to use for any age, clean looking and not burdensome on bandwidth. Having it available offline will also be key for those using the app in remote locations.

NOTE: This is the third time we have tried to do this project and we have been scammed out of money when milestones were paid but no product was delivered. We have been asked to move money via other means, pay by purchasing vouchers or simply have the developers page disappear from this site once an early milestone was met. WE WILL NOT DEVIATE FROM USING THIS PLATFORM! Please do not bid on this project if you want to use other means of payment or have no intention to deliver.
