Word Document Formatting Cleanup

Job ID: 40171551

Budget: $30 – $250 USD

I have a 500-page, 33-chapter manuscript in Microsoft Word that needs a tidy-up so it’s press-ready. Almost everything is in place, but a handful of chapters lost their way with section breaks, headers, and page numbering.

Here’s what needs to be corrected:

• Each chapter must finish with a single Section Break > Next Page—no extras hiding in the middle.
• The first page of every chapter stays header-free; all following pages in that same section show alternating headers: one page should read the book’s title, the next a truncated chapter title, and so on.
• Some chapters currently split into two separate sections after page one. They should be merged into a single section that uses “Different First Page” instead.
• Page numbering should restart at “1” on the first page of Part 1 and flow continuously to the end.

Once you’re done, I’ll run a quick spot-check: every chapter should start cleanly, headers must alternate exactly as described, and the page count should stay intact. Please work directly in the .docx file and return the corrected version; no PDF export is needed on your side.

Most of the book is already correct, so an experienced Word power-user with solid command of section breaks, headers/footers, and page setup should wrap this up in roughly two to three hours. I’ll be available for real-time questions while you work and can approve immediately once the final checks pass.
