Legal Motions & Calendar Assistant
Budget: $2 – $8 USD
I need a reliable legal assistant who can keep me on task. I am a solo who has a few legal cases that I manage.
I need someone to help with motion work and to keep critical dates perfectly on track. You will draft, polish, and e-file a variety of motions under my direction, ensuring every citation is accurate and every supporting exhibit is in order before it reaches the court’s electronic filing system.
While the motions move forward, you will also watch the calendar like a hawk—tracking court-imposed deadlines, discovery schedules, and any changes that come in via email from counsel. When an opposing attorney proposes new dates or needs clarification, you will be the first point of contact, confirming details with professionalism and then updating me so I never miss a beat.
To succeed you should be comfortable working in Microsoft Word (or equivalent), familiar with basic e-filing portals, and able to maintain a shared calendar in Outlook without clutter. Excellent written English, a solid grasp of California civil-procedure terminology, and meticulous attention to detail are must-haves; if you already know Bluebook or a comparable citation guide it will make both our lives easier.
Deliverables I expect on an ongoing basis:
• A clean, court-ready draft of each motion, delivered in Word and PDF.
• A brief edit history or redline showing any substantive changes.
• Confirmation that the motion has been successfully filed, with the stamped copy saved to our drive.
• Calendar updates that reflect every new deadline, discovery date, or hearing as soon as it is set.
If you thrive on organization and can write persuasively within tight page limits, I’m ready to get started.
Additionally, from time to time, I may need to refer certain cases out to attorneys and you would be the point of contact to help me search the internet to find a capable attorney willing to take the case.
General knowledge of US law, in particular California law is preferred. If you have experience with local courts in Los Angeles, CA that is preferred.
