LaTeX to Microsoft Word Conversion
Budget: $30 – $250 USD
Job Description
I have an academic paper (abut 50 pages) written in LaTeX that I need converted into a well-structured Microsoft Word document (.docx).
The project consists of:
• One main .tex file
• Multiple .png figure files
• Several appendices (Appendix A, B, C, …) but no e-companion (EC) yet
What I need you to do
1. Convert LaTeX to a clean, editable Word file
o All text should be normal, editable Word text (no large images of pages).
o Mathematical equations should be editable Word equations (not images), as much as possible.
o Figures from .png files should be inserted in appropriate places with proper captions.
2. Section headings and structure
o Use Word’s built-in heading styles for the main body:
Heading 1 for sections (e.g., “1 Introduction”, “2 Model”…)
Heading 2, Heading 3, etc., for subsections.
o For appendices, use proper headings as well (for example: “Appendix A”, “Appendix B”, “Appendix C”), using Heading 1 or a dedicated appendix heading style, not manually typed bold text.
o The section and appendix structure should follow the original LaTeX document as closely as possible.
3. Numbering of propositions, lemmas, etc.
o For propositions, theorems, lemmas, definitions, etc., please use Word’s caption/numbering or field mechanism so that labels are of the form:
In the main text: Proposition <section-number>.<running-number> (e.g., Proposition 3.2)
In the appendices: Proposition A.1, Proposition B.2, etc.
o These labels should be generated by fields / numbering, not hard-typed text, so they can be updated later if needed.
4. Equation numbering and references
o Equation numbers should be of the form (<section-number>.<running-number>) in the main text, e.g., (3.1), (3.2).
o In the appendices, equation numbers should be (A.1), (A.2), (B.1), etc.
o Please use Word’s fields and cross-reference features for equation numbers and references (not plain typed text), so that I can update numbering later and keep the links.
5. Cross-references (internal links)
o All references in the text such as “see Proposition 3.2”, “see Lemma A.1”, “see equation (2.3)”, “see Appendix B”, etc., should be inserted using Word’s cross-reference feature, pointing to the corresponding proposition, lemma, equation, figure, table, or appendix heading.
o Please do not type these references as plain text; they should be actual cross-references so that if numbering changes, the references can be updated (e.g., by selecting all and pressing F9).
o Cross-references and links should be set up so that Word’s natural navigation behavior works correctly:
Alt + click (or Ctrl + click, depending on settings) on a reference should jump to the target, and
Alt + Left Arrow should take me back to the previous location after following such a link.
Please ensure the structure and link types you use allow this standard Word behavior.
6. References / bibliography links
o The paper uses author–year style citations, e.g., (Brown et al. 2020).
o In the Word document, please make the year part (e.g., 2020) a hyperlink to the corresponding entry in the reference list using bookmarks and hyperlinks.
For example, create a bookmark for each reference in the bibliography, and make the year in (Brown et al. 2020) link to that bookmark.
7. Target style / context
o The paper is intended for INFORMS-type journals (e.g., Management Science, Operations Research), but this Word document is not the final submission version.
o At this stage I mainly want:
A clean, editable Word file
Correct and consistent numbering
Proper internal links (cross-references)
A structure that is as close as reasonably possible to the original LaTeX.
Important implementation notes
• Please rely on Word’s styles, fields, and cross-references, rather than manual formatting:
o Use Heading styles for sections and appendices.
o Use field-based numbering for propositions, lemmas, equations, figures, and tables.
o Use Word’s cross-reference feature for all internal references.
• I plan to later reorganize some of the appendices into an e-companion (EC) myself, so it is important that the numbering and links are field-based and easy to update.
