KDP Manuscript Formatting Needed
Budget: $10 – $30 USD
I have a complete non-fiction manuscript in Word that now needs to be brought up to Kindle Direct Publishing standards. The final book will be printed in a 6×9-inch trim size, set in Garamond 12 pt throughout.
What I need you to do
• Lay out the interior in Word so the file opens cleanly in any recent version of Microsoft Word and exports to PDF without errors.
• Apply proper margins, gutter, and section breaks that KDP accepts for a 6×9 hardcover.
• Create professional front-matter pages (title, copyright, dedication, acknowledgments as supplied) and start each new chapter on a fresh right-hand page.
• Build a fully functional table of contents generated from Word styles; I’m open to your recommendation on indented vs. flat layout.
• Insert running headers and footers: I’d like the book title on the left‐hand pages and the current chapter title on the right, but feel free to suggest alternatives if you think something will print better. Page numbers should sit in the footer, centred or outer margin—whichever aligns with industry standards.
• Format an index at the back using the index marks already in the file (or create them if needed) so it paginates accurately after every revision.
Deliverables
1. A clean, styled DOCX that passes KDP’s previewer without warnings.
2. A press-quality PDF generated from that DOCX, ready for upload.
Acceptance
I’ll consider the job complete when the files upload to KDP print with no margin, font-embedding, or bleed issues and the navigation links inside the Kindle Previewer work perfectly.
