BOOK MANUSCRIPT FORMATTING PROJECT - using - MS WORD

Job ID: 39161360

Budget: $250 – $750 USD

BOOK FORMATTING PROJECT - 03.02.25

CONTEXT:

• I have written a manuscript for a book that I’d like to get printed by a company named Smartpress.com. They have printed two previous versions of the manuscript – the initial one and a second with several changes. I’ve finalized my changes and would like to submit a final revised manuscript to Smartpress.com.
• I’ve attached the manuscript I’d like you to format: CJA_MANUSCRIPT_FIVERR_030125.DOCX
• Unfortunately, it looks like my previous formatter isn’t going to be able to help me. Thus, I’m seeking someone who can fulfill my needs.
• I’ve written the previous manuscripts in MS Word and converted them to PDF which is the required Smartpress format.
• I’ve also attached my 2nd Smartpress submittal – both the Word and PDF versions for you to see all the steps my previous vendor took. (The reason being that in the latest manuscript, not all of his formatting steps are still working and having the previous versions may help you to see his formatting approach). They’re titled:
o C ANDERSON_MANUSCRIPTFINAL SUBMITTAL_021524.DOCX
o C ANDERSON_MANUSCRIPTFINAL SUBMITTAL_021524.PDF
• I’d like you to format the latest version in the same manner my previous vendor used in versions 1 and 2.
• To meet my specs, I’m assuming this will require you to change a few page breaks, header settings, etc. as some of those settings are no longer working in the current version

TASK ELEMENTS:

• I’d like you to format the latest version in the same manner my previous vendor used in versions 1 and 2.
• To meet my specs, I’m assuming this will require you to change a few page breaks, header settings, etc. as some of those settings are no longer working in the current version.

KEY PROJECT SPECS:

1. Margins were set to the Smartpress (smartpress.com) printer’s specs in the previous drafts. They need to be updated in this one because they aren’t accurately impacting the PDF version after the conversion from MS Word. I’ve spelled out the Smart Press spec’s on page 2 of this spec sheet.
2. All stories and sections start on the right facing page … with odd page numbers. Which means the doc needs to be able to insert pages where necessary to ensure this.
3. Blank pages that are inserted to ensure all sections and stories start on the right facing page – are not numbered.
4. The table of contents starts on the back side of the dedication, so will be left and right facing) so you can see the entire TOC when you turn the dedication page.
5. I will manually insert correct page numbers into the TOC after you have formatted the document per these specs. There is no need for you to build in this feature.
6. I want the titles of the main sections of the book to be inserted in the upper left corner of all left facing pages – of stories within the respective sections. Except for those pages that are blank. The main sections encompass the following:
a. Prologue (New addition)
b. Introduction
c. Growing Up Anderson
d. High School to Business School
e. Andersonville University
f. Majority of One
g. Life on My Own Terms
h. Acknowledgements
i. Examination of Consciousness (New addition)
7. You’ll note that in this version, I’ve included an inside cover page that was not included in the last one.

MARGIN SPECS I GOT FROM SMARTPRESS – (smartpress.com)

For your 6x9 manuscript in MS Word, we recommend setting up your document with the following specifications:
1. Page size: 6" x 9"
2. Margins: Set all margins (top, bottom, left, right) to at least 0.125" (1/8 inch)
3. Bleed: If your design includes elements that extend to the edge of the page, add a 0.125" bleed on all sides
Remember to keep all essential elements (text, logos, important artwork) at least 0.125" away from the edge of the page. This ensures nothing important gets trimmed off during the printing process.
For the most accurate setup, consider using our templates or contacting our customer service for specific guidance on your project.
If the margin specifications don't work for your 6x9 manuscript, you can contact our customer service at 888-934-6909.
