Backup and recovery plan for an Azure VM Windows+MSSQL system
Budget: €30 – €250 EUR
We are renting a Standard B2ms VM from Azure. The VM runs Windows and MSSQL. The server is running 30+ ISS sites which are serving our customers. Each site has its own database.
Currently we are backing up the databases twice a day and the bkp files are automatically backed up using a IDrive. This is far from ideal. If there's any issue, I have a backup which is not older than 12 hours. But if I need to restore the complete system, it would be tough.
I would like to improve our backup procedures. What does it mean?
- if, for any reason the server crashes (for example due to a ransomware attack), I should be able to set up a brand new system in the shortest possible time
- the fresher the backups, the better
So what I need:
- At least 2 backup plans (including a solution for the whole system, not only the DB's). I'm asking at least 2 plans because I want to choose between better, faster, professional solutions and cheaper ones.
- Once I decide the backup plan to go with (taking nto consideration all the aspects), I need an exact guidance on how to prepare for the backups and I also need your support while this backup is put into operation.
- And I also need a recovery plan, so I know the exact steps to follow if I need to restore the whole system or the DB only in case of any issue

You don't have to detail it, I just need to know by high levels what solution should I expect, what technology are you going to use if I'll give the job to you.
