The task is to develop a utility to enable “click-to-call” for people using generic VOIP client software with Outlook.
Most people are already familiar with TEL: or CALLTO: links which can open Skype, Teams and other dialers to initiate a call.
However there is a limitation in Outlook (and some other programs) that allows the built-in calling functionality for Contacts to only work with Skype and Teams. If you use a different Voip provider then you cannot initiate a call using standard Outlook functionality.
Some Voip providers have got around this by building their own integration for their dialer/client app with outlook. But there only a handful of such apps, and they are locked to work only with the service/client of the specific provider. (They cannot be used with another company’s client or VOIP service.) For example the Zoiper VOIP client has this.
I want to create a simple universal client for Outlook that will work with any client that supports Callto: functionality.
