FreeBSD Dovecot to M365 Migration
Budget: $250 – $750 USD
My current mail stack runs on FreeBSD with Dovecot and holds somewhere between 50 GB and 200 GB of data across fewer than ten mailboxes. I already maintain an active Microsoft 365 tenant and the target mailboxes are provisioned, so this engagement is strictly about the migration itself—no account creation or licence work is required.
Scope
• Plan and execute a clean IMAP-based transfer (IMAPSync, MigrationWiz, or a proven equivalent is fine).
• Carry out one or more delta syncs to capture messages that arrive during the cut-over window.
• Coordinate DNS MX switch-over so downtime stays near-zero.
• Validate that each user’s folder structure, flags, and any server-side filters arrive intact.
• Provide me with a brief post-migration report confirming message counts and any anomalies.
Acceptance criteria
1. All historical mail for every mailbox appears in Microsoft 365 with matching folder hierarchy and identical message counts.
2. Users can log in to Outlook on the web and Outlook desktop with no missing mail or duplicate items.
3. MX records point solely to Microsoft 365 and mail flow is verified for inbound and outbound tests.
4. A simple hand-over document lists the tools used, steps taken, and any follow-up recommendations.
The FreeBSD server is accessible via SSH; I can grant sudo if needed. Timing is flexible but once we start I would like the transition completed inside one week.
