FPGA Engineer for DSP Algorithm Design
Budget: $750 – $1,500 CAD
Hi,
I want to design and prototype a driver board for a OEM display I would like to use. I have a specific list of features, but basically:
- drive a 60Hz 1920x1080 mini DP (mDP 1.4b 30 pin ribbon cable) display given a user choice of either 3G/HD-SDI video or HDMI video input
- support input frame rates from 23.98/24/25/29.97i/29.97p/30/50/59.94i/59.94p/60p and do frame rate conversion to 60Hz of panel
- Support 32-point monitor calibration LUT (3D-lut) with tetrahedral interpolation, that can somehow be user-supplied (ideally, by a menu that loads off a microSD card into a few selectable memory slots)
- Support a second 24 or 32-point creative video lut that is applied before the calibration lut in the signal chain, with similar option to load into memory from sd card
- features like choosing to scale video signal between full range and legal range (ie 18-235 for legal in 8 bit space or 0-255 for full range)
- support 10-bit per channel colour on input and output side (miniDP true 10-bit per channel signal to monitor)
- basic menu to adjust these things
- detect and advertise HDR compatibility to HDMI devices
- manual selection between HDR off/auto/on (ST2084 gamma curve/rec2020 color primaries), meaning, it detects if SDI payload or HDMI metadata is advertising an HDR signal as bring present
- control of brightness
- user control of red/green/blue channel gain, to be applied in addition to calibration LUT
- I would like to implement this in the simplest lowest cost BOM way as possible, but in the future i also want to be able to drive the display on something like an nvidia jetson to be able to utilize more complex software packages that provide in depth features like video scopes, or focus peaking etc. however i understand jetson doesn’t support 10 bit per channel color over the mini dp interface! Interested in your advice here as far as simple platform.
Basically this is just a driver board for a display panel that uses video ICs/deserializers for both SDI and HDMI into an FPGA to apply a calibration lut and various signal manipulations with user settings before spitting it out to a mini DP signal for a pre made panel.
I am interested in pursuing this project with a freelancer capable of PCB design, with familiarity with relevant deserializer ICs for SDI video, as well as a familiarity with FPGA programming and the multitude of other relevant skills involved.
I know this is a big project, if there’s proposals on how to break this down into phases, for example a board design that can provide basic functionality as a first phase and move to the more advanced features as firmware is written, that’s the way I would like to approach this.
