Human Sample Microbiology Analysis
Budget: $1,500 – $3,000 USD
I have a set of human-derived samples requiring exploratory, non-diagnostic microbial identification, and I am looking to engage a microbiologist with hands-on laboratory experience performing this type of work at the bench.
Applicants should have prior experience working in a research, clinical, diagnostic, or otherwise regulated laboratory environment, such that they are already familiar with good laboratory practice (GLP), appropriate biosafety procedures, and standard laboratory documentation when handling human-derived material.
The core of the project involves culture-based microbial screening and identification. This includes plating, incubation, and interpretation of colony morphology to characterize bacterial and fungal organisms present. Where appropriate, confirmation using standard biochemical or rapid identification methods is acceptable. Targeted molecular assays (e.g., PCR) are not required for this engagement.
The scope of work is limited to bacterial and fungal organisms. All samples will be de-identified and provided in accordance with applicable transport and biosafety requirements.
Deliverables will include a concise written report describing:
• Culture media and incubation conditions used
• Observed colony morphologies, with photographic documentation
• Microbial identification results (to genus or species level where practicable)
• Brief interpretive notes on environmental origin or handling-related considerations (non-diagnostic)
