Tensile strength calculation
Budget: $10 – $30 USD
We need some calculations to answer the following questions:
- What is the maximum height the drone can fly without exceeding the maximum takeoff mass? (How many meters of water hose, filled with water, can the drone support?)
- Will the drone be able to separate from the tether (break the hose) at its maximum speed of 23 m/s?
- What is the minimum weight of the ground tether securing point required to prevent movement when the drone reaches the maximum tether length at its maximum horizontal speed?
We need to prove:
- The maximum height (hose length) to stay within the MTOM.
- The drone's ability to remain tethered (no movement of the ground securing point).
- That the hose will not break at maximum horizontal speed (with a safety factor of 1.5).
The values needed to perform the calculation are attached.
